Fix Wi-Fi on Android
Simple, easy-to-follow solutions for common Wi-Fi problems on Android devices.
HowToFixWiFi
Android Wi-Fi problems — refusing to connect, connecting without internet, or dropping constantly — are usually caused by a stuck network entry or an outdated setting cache.
These steps work on Samsung, Pixel, and most other Android phones and tablets.
Step-by-step instructions
- Turn Wi-Fi off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
- Open the network’s settings, forget the network, then reconnect and re-enter the password carefully.
- Restart the phone — a full power-off and on, not just the screen locking.
- Check for a system update: Settings → System → System update. Updates often include network fixes.
- Reset the network settings: Settings → System → Reset options → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. This erases saved networks, so you’ll rejoin them with their passwords afterwards.
- Restart your router, then reconnect the phone once the Wi-Fi light is steady.
Helpful tips
- “Private DNS” set to a broken hostname is a hidden cause of connected-but-no-internet on Android — set it to Automatic in Network settings.
- VPN apps left on can block the internet while Wi-Fi looks connected — try turning the VPN off.
- If only your Android device misbehaves while others are fine, the fix is almost always on the phone, not the router.
