Privacy and data

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how information may be handled when you browse HowToFixWiFi, use the troubleshooting tool, or visit the site’s administration area.

Last updated:

This policy describes the website code and features currently in use. Before publishing, the site owner should confirm the operator identity, contact details, hosting and retention practices, applicable jurisdiction, and any active third-party scripts. Update the policy before adding analytics, advertising, contact forms, or other data collection, and review it against local requirements.

About this policy

“HowToFixWiFi,” “we,” and “the site” refer to this website and its operator. This policy covers the public troubleshooting pages and explains the separate, limited handling needed for site administration. It does not replace the privacy notices of your internet provider, device maker, hosting provider, or any external service you choose to use.

Information handled

Using the troubleshooting tool

Your selected device, issue, and router are held in page state while you use the tool. The home page does not submit those selections to a visitor account or store them as a troubleshooting record. If you open a detailed fix guide, the selected labels are represented in the page URL. As with other web requests, that URL may be visible to the site’s hosting or diagnostic logs.

The article search term is used in the page to filter the displayed articles. The current implementation does not send that term to a separate search service.

Basic request and diagnostic information

When a browser requests a web page, the hosting and network services needed to deliver it may process technical information such as an IP address, requested URL, browser type, and request time. These providers may keep operational or security logs under their own policies and retention settings. The site operator should consult the provider’s documentation for deployment-specific details.

Administration

Visitors do not need an account to read public guides. The private administration area uses an authentication cookie for the site administrator. It is HTTP-only, uses a strict same-site setting, is marked secure in production, and expires after 12 hours. The content management database stores site-authored articles, fix guides, and configuration; the public tool does not save a visitor’s selections there.

Messages and forms

The public site currently has no message submission form, visitor account, comments, payment checkout, or newsletter signup. If you contact the site using an email address shown on the Contact page, your message and email address will be handled by the email services involved in sending and receiving it. Do not include passwords or verification codes.

Cookies and local storage

The public troubleshooting pages do not require you to sign in. The application’s administrator sign-in uses a first-party wifi_admin_session cookie to maintain the admin session. The website code does not use local storage to save your public-page troubleshooting selections.

Additional scripts enabled by the site operator may set cookies or use similar technologies. Their purpose, providers, and controls depend on which scripts are active in the deployed site.

External services

The site requests DM Sans and Manrope fonts from Google Fonts. Google may receive technical connection information, such as your IP address and browser details, when your browser requests those font files.

The site also supports optional scripts configured by its administrator. If analytics, advertising, embedded media, or other external scripts are enabled, those providers may receive information directly from your browser. Their own privacy terms and settings apply. The site operator should list active providers here and provide any consent controls required in the relevant locations.

Storage and retention

Public tool selections are not saved as visitor profiles by the application. The administrator’s session cookie is temporary. Website content and settings are kept in the content management database for as long as the operator needs them to run the site. Hosting and security logs, if retained, follow the applicable provider configuration and retention periods.

Your choices

You can leave the site at any time and use browser controls to block or clear cookies and external requests. Blocking external font requests may change the appearance of text but should not prevent access to the guides. Browser or network controls can affect how pages work.

Privacy rights and complaint options depend on where you live. For a question or request, contact the site operator using the details on the Contact page. The operator may need enough information to locate a request and verify it before responding.

Children’s privacy

The public pages provide general Wi-Fi information and are not designed to create accounts for children or collect personal profiles. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the site operator, please use the Contact page so the operator can review the request.

Changes and contact

This policy may change when the site or its data practices change. The “Last updated” date above identifies the latest revision. For questions about this policy, use the contact information on our Contact page.
