How to fix “Can’t find Wi-Fi” on your device

Your network isn’t showing in the Wi-Fi list? Work through these checks. Written for your device, with your current router in mind.

How to fix “Can’t find Wi-Fi” on your device

These generic steps work on game consoles, printers, streaming sticks, and anything else that joins Wi-Fi. Menu names vary, but the flow is the same.

If your network has vanished from the Wi-Fi list, the cause is usually simple: the router is off, you’re too far away, or the network name is hidden.

Work through these checks in order.

On your router

Check the sticker on the bottom or back for the admin address and default password, and use the status lights as a guide: power solid, Wi-Fi solid, internet solid means the router side is healthy.

Your step-by-step fix

1Find the network or Wi-Fi section in the device’s settings menu and check what status it shows for your network.
2Check that your router is powered on and its Wi-Fi light is lit. If the Wi-Fi light is off, press the router’s Wi-Fi/WPS button if it has one.
3Move closer to the router and refresh your device’s Wi-Fi list.
4Restart your router, wait for it to fully power up, then scan again — it can take 2–3 minutes to reappear.
5On a phone, try turning the device’s Wi-Fi off and on, or restarting the device, to force a fresh scan.
6If the network is still missing but works on other devices, the network name (SSID) may be hidden — add it manually using the name and password from your router’s sticker or settings.
Neighbour networks showing up but not yours is a strong sign your router is off or restarting.
A quick 30-second power cycle of the router fixes a surprisingly large share of “missing network” cases.
If the network never comes back, the router may need a reset — see our router-reset guide.
IoT gadgets like printers and cameras often only support 2.4 GHz — join that network when setting them up.
Devices with a web admin page (printers, consoles) sometimes need a power cycle of their own, not just the router.
