Troubleshooting Wi-Fi on your Android phone

Not sure what’s wrong? These universal steps fix the majority of Wi-Fi problems. Written for your Android phone, with your Huawei router in mind.

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi on your Android phone

These steps are written for an Android phone — Samsung, Pixel, and most other brands follow the same menus. Router-side fixes apply no matter which device you use.

If you can’t pin down the problem, these general steps fix the majority of Wi-Fi issues — no matter the device or router brand.

Work through them in order; each one takes under two minutes.

On a Huawei router

Many Huawei units are combined modems supplied by your ISP, so some settings live on the provider’s side. The admin page is often at 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.1.1.

Your step-by-step fix

1On your Android phone, open Settings → Network & internet → Internet, and tap the gear icon next to your network to check its status.
2Confirm whether other devices can connect. This single check tells you whether it’s a device problem or a network problem.
3Turn Wi-Fi off and back on on the affected device, then reconnect.
4Restart the device itself — a full restart clears a surprising number of network glitches.
5Restart your router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait 2–3 minutes for it to fully reconnect.
6Move closer to the router and forget the network, then reconnect with a freshly entered password.
7If nothing has changed after all of that, contact your internet provider — the fault is likely on their side.
Change only one thing at a time, so you know which step actually fixed it.
Almost every “mysterious” Wi-Fi problem is one of three things: the router needs a restart, the password is wrong, or the provider is down.
Still stuck? Our other guides go deeper on each specific problem.
Android’s “Private DNS” setting can silently break the internet while Wi-Fi looks connected — set it to Automatic in Network settings.
If a VPN app is on, try turning it off: a stuck VPN often looks exactly like a Wi-Fi problem.
